Experimental review of diffractive phenomena

چکیده
The diffractive interaction is a feature of hadron-hadron scattering at high energy corresponding to a t-channel exchange of the vacuum quantum numbers and a small momentum transfer. It has been has been described, in the past, in the framework of Regge theory, where the exchange was interpreted as the Pomeron (IP ) trajectory, characterized by a weak energy dependence, in particular, with respect to the fast decrease of the total cross section at smaller energy due to Reggeon (IR) exchange: σTot = B W 2(α IR + AW 2(αIP , where W is the center of mass energy, A and B normalisation factors and typically α IR = 0.55 and α IP = 1.08.

We review QCD based descriptions of diffractive deep inelastic scattering emphasising the role of models with parton saturation. These models provide natural explanation of such experimentally observed facts as the constant ratio of σ dif f /σ tot as a function of the Bjorken variable x, and Regge factorization of diffractive parton distributions. The Ingelman-Schlein model and the soft color i...

We review the description of high energy diffraction from both the s and t channel viewpoints, and demonstrate their consistency. We emphasize the role played by s channel unitarity and multi-Pomeron exchanges. We explain how these effects suppress hard diffractive processes. As examples, we describe the calculation of diffractive dijet production at the Tevatron and predict some of the rich di...

We review the diffractive measurements made by the CDF and DØ collaborations during Run I at the Tevatron and summarize the detector upgrades relevant for the Run II diffractive physics program.
متن کاملDiffractive Higgs boson production at Tevatron and LHC: an experimental review
We discuss the different models of central diffractive production of the Higgs boson at the Tevatron and the LHC. We also describe how the models can be tested using diffractive production data being taken at the Tevatron. We finally discuss the advantages of using diffractive events to reconstruct the mass of the Higgs boson especially at the LHC.

We discuss basic concepts and properties of diffractive phenomena in soft hadron collisions and in deep-inelastic scattering at low Bjorken-x. The paper is not a review of the rapidly developing field but presents an attempt to show in simple terms the close inter-relationship between the dynamics of high-energy hadronic and deep-inelastic diffraction. Using the saturation model of Golec-Bierna...
